b.      Teaching Point – Edit your writing from your biography pieces.

c.      Demonstration – Discuss steps of editing and what should you see when you are editing. Review punctuation rules and spelling. Inform students they may also look in the writer’s handbook if they have any questions or concerns.

  4. Read Chapter 1 and model writing a sentence to include in summary.
  5. Divide students into groups to read and write a subtopic sentence for their assigned chapter.

Procedure:        

Mini-lesson 1:15-1:25         

1.      I will briefly review sequencing events with the class and remind them that they need to always sequence events in chronological order.

2.      We will then create a short summary from our read aloud Hatchet fill in events from the beginning, middle and end of the story on the SMART board. Students will then create their own short summary from their independent books in their reading journals. Outline will need to be the same as the one completed in class.
