Objective: Students will be introduced to the strategy of fast-writing discovery drafts.

a.      Connection – Great authors sometimes just write and write to get all of their ideas down on paper.

b.      Teaching Point – Students will learn the strategy of fast-writing.

c.      Demonstration – Read an example aloud.

2.    Conference/Small Group/Independent Work Time:

d.      Students will practice writing another personal narrative where they don’t worry about spelling, grammar, or structure.

  1. Watch a video titled, “Understanding the Constitution – Creating the Federal Government” from Unitedstreaming.
  2. Discuss the United States Constitution and how it works. Think of the video and how it discussed how our country's founders forged the framework of our government comes to life in this engaging program. Students will learn about James Madison and Alexander Hamilton and their key roles in the creation of the Constitution.
  3. Introduce hand motions for memorizing the Preamble and practice with a partner.  Then, come together to perform as a class.
