Objective: Students will continue developing understanding of persuasive writing.

Activities:

1.    Mini-Lesson:

a.      Connection – Discussion of eating turkey or ham on Thanksgiving.

b.      Teaching Point – We are going to take the point of view of one of these animals.

c.      Demonstration – Go through writing process.

2.    Conference/Small Group/Independent Work Time:

a.      Students will use snippet journal to list their reasons why the other animal should be the main course for Thanksgiving.  Use the sheet or snippet journal to write your persuasive paragraph.

3.    Debrief/Share

  3. Take turns teaching your buddy about the Thanksgiving by reading facts on-line, taking the Thanksgiving Quiz, and trying some Thanksgiving Food.
