1. Choose a page to begin reading from the book selection and write that information on your rubric and reading contract. 2. Silently read the passage for practice. 3. Now open the sound recorder and record yourself reading until the sound recorder stops. This will be for a minute. Mark where you ended reading, so you know where to read to next time. 4. Write 1 minute for the 1st reading on your contract. 5. Listen to the recording and read along with your passage. 6. Think about how you did and what you should do when you complete your second reading. 7. Now, record yourself reading the passage again. Did you improve your time any? It is ok if you didn't, but write the time on the contract next to 2nd reading. 8. Listen to yourself again and remember to follow along. Did you improve any? Think about what else you need to do to improve: like pausing at punctuation marks and reading smoothly. 9. Record yourself reading the passage one more time. When you are finished, write your time on your contract for 3rd reading. 10. Listen to yourself again and follow along so you can rate your fluency on the rubric. Give yourself a 1 in an area if you did not do well at all. Give yourself a 5 in an area if you think you did really well.
