Animal Character Card Book Report Activity

Guidelines

Objective: Students create at least 2 animal character cards.  Each card includes an illustration and important information about an animal.

 

To get students started on this project, display baseball cards and explain that students will make similar cards for the animal characters in their book.  Ask students what information they would include on these cards, and list their suggestions on the board.

 

Ask the following questions:

 

Materials

·        5-by-8 inch index cards (or paper cut to size)

or

·        Use Microsoft Publisher, Word, or other acceptable program

 

Directions

  1. Find an animal book that interests you and is at an appropriate reading level for you.  Have your book approved by your teacher.

  1.   1. Circle the animals that are most important to the story.  (Even an animal that seems to have a small part might be very important in the end.)

 

  1. Make a character card for each of the animals you circled.  (You should make at least 2 cards.)  On one side of the index card, draw and color a picture of the animal or create the picture on the computer.  Write the character’s name below or above your picture.

 

  1. On the back of each card, include the following information.  You may need to look up some of the information in your book or in other locations.
